PROVENCE FABRIC in HISTORY

FRENCH PROVENCE FABRIC INSPIRED BY INDIA

During the 17th century the French Company of East Indies Trading Posts were created and launched a huge expansion of goods exchanges between France and India.
French people were very fond of the colorful printed fabric from India. A mixture of indian fabrics and French natural design were created. This type of new design fabric were called " INDIENNES" ="INDIANS".  In the south of France, sunflowers, paisley, diamond shapes design  from Provence were displayed on colorful cotton fabric.
The fabric were printed with carved stamps and hand- painted.
